A protest is to be held outside a County Mayo hotel over plans to house up to 120 international protection applicants there.
A protest is to take place outside Ballina’s Twin Trees Hotel on Downhill Road, this evening, Friday, April 12, at 7pm.
“
It comes following reports that the hotel is set to welcome up to 120 International Protection Applicants from family units in 33 of its bedroom.
An update from the Department was also issued to local representatives within the county detailing the proposal.
A poster produced by those organising the demonstration called for a ‘peaceful public assembly’ in opposition to the proposed accommodation of IPAs at the hotel.
The poster said the discussion will centre around resident opinions, safety concerns and suitability of the location given the town’s current educational and medical resources are at peak capacity.
The government policy on immigration and the impact of the proposal on the town’s tourism industry will also be discussed.
The Department of Integration has been contacted for a comment on the plans.
