Duncan Reid faces Ginebra stars again in HK home qualifier vs Gilas

THE Gilas Pilipinas team will see a familiar face when it faces Hong Kong on Thursday at the start of the Fiba Asia Cup 2025 qualifiers.

Duncan Reid, who starred for the Bay Area Dragons squad that competed as a guest team in the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, will play for the Hong Kong national team when it plays Gilas  at the Tsuen Wan Stadium.

The Dragons reached the finals of the Commissioner’s Cup, but lost in seven games to Ginebra which was coached by Tim Cone. Among the Ginebra players in the Gilas lineup facing HK and Reid are Justin Brownlee, Scottie Thompson, Jamie Malonzo, Japeth Aguilar.

Reid has been a mainstay of the Hong Kong national team since 2013 when he saw action for the former British territory during the Fiba Asia Championship that Manila hosted.

Other members of the Hong Kong team are So Chi Lok, Leung Shiu Wah, Hon Tin Chi, Ricky Yang, Tam Tsz Kin, Yeung Siu Hung, Wong Tsz Him, Oliver Xu, Tsoi Lung Tak, Liu Kwan Ho, and Chang Hiu Fung.

Hong Kong though will be without Choi Kwan Tsai and Shiu Wah Leung, the top two scorers of the team during the Fiba Asia Cup 2025 pre-qualifiers last year where they placed in the top four to make it to the actual qualifiers.
