Having made his debut in the Test arena last year, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been giving remarkable performances, scoring a brilliant 171 in his first Test itself. While he did struggle during the South Africa tour, he managed to bounce back in the five-match Test series against England, scoring an astounding 712 runs in nine innings. With this, Jaiswal also became the second Indian player after Sunil Gavaskar to score 700+ runs in a Test series. While his performance has garnered the youngster a lot of praise at home, questions still remain on whether he could maintain the same pace in overseas conditions.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan was among the ones who joined the conversation about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s future performances, ahead of the upcoming Test series against Australia in November this year.

While speaking on the ‘Club Prairie Fire’ podcast, Vaughan raised the question and star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin came up with an epic response. Mentioning that he finds it funny how young players face pressure before their big assignments, thanks to the “experts in India.”

“This is one part of the narrative that I genuinely laugh at. In India as well, you have lots of experts saying about someone who has sort of burst onto the scene. Hey, but hang on, let’s wait and see how they do in Australia, in South Africa, in England. I find it ridiculously funny, because unless and until you want somebody to fail, you wouldn’t say something like that. You’re looking forward to somebody failing, because that’s the beauty of international cricket,” he said.

Ashwin further explained that Jaiswal may or may not perform well in Australia, but it will be a great learning experience. “That’s the whole point of travelling somewhere. At the end of the day, the attitude of a cricketer is to conquer everything, and that gets you to the top,” he added.

Heaping praise on the young batter, Ashwin called him a “naturally gifted ball striker” and said that what he has touched has turned to gold. “Yashasvi has the tools to be successful. But he is also going to go through the journey of learning something valuable. He will even have failures, and he will learn valuable lessons. I think he is going to be double the player he is right now,” he further said.
