JEE Main Rank 4 Aditya Kumar speaks on mental health for students in Kota
Aditya Kumar, hailing from Rajasthan, has clinched the prestigious All India Rank 4 in the JEE Mains 2024 session-2 examination, scoring a perfect 300 out of 300 marks. Gajare Nilkrishna Nirmalkumar and Dakshesh Sanjay Mishra secured the first and second ranks respectively. Aarav Bhatt bagged Rank 3.
The first, second, and fourth rank holders of JEE Main 2024 Session 2 were all students of Allen Institute. Aditya had been preparing for JEE Mains from Allen Institute while staying in Kota for the last two years.
Speaking to Aaj Tak, Aditya Kumar he spoke openly about the mental pressure of these aspirants and the demanding atmosphere of Kota, a renowned coaching hub for engineering aspirants. He also shared insights into his rigorous preparation journey.
MENTAL PRESSUREÂ
Discussing the mental pressure endured by aspirants like himself, Aditya emphasised the importance of seeking support from teachers, mentors and peers.

“Any Kota resident faces a lot of challenges and to face them, it is very important to talk to teachers. We do not share many things like the mental pressure we re experiencing or when we are feeling low,” he says.
“People might think that this will make them look weak in front of others but it should not be so. It is a matter of greatest bravery and courage that you are able to express all these things,” adds the JEE Main topper.
“To avoid this, it is very important to talk. You should openly talk to your parents, teacher or friend,” Aditya says.
NAVIGATING THE KOTA ENVIRONMENT
Reflecting on Kota’s environment, Aditya described it as dynamic yet challenging.
“There is always pressure to improve one’s performance. Apart from this, there are some negative things as well but one must know how to deal with them. If one feels something negative somewhere then one must move away from there,” he says.
“One must participate as much as possible in the things that give one happiness or the positive interactions that one feels,” Aditya adds.
A STRATEGIC STUDY APPROACH
Detailing his study regimen, Aditya stressed the importance of consistent academic engagement and proactive doubt resolution. He emphasised the necessity of attending classes diligently, clarifying doubts promptly, and maintaining an exhaustive understanding of every subject matter.
Aditya’s rigorous routine encompassed extensive class hours followed by dedicated self-study sessions.
“I did self-study for 9 to 10 hours daily. I used to be very serious about the tests conducted from time to time in Allen because only through the tests could you analyze your preparation,” Aditya says about his preparation strategy.
“If I got fewer marks in any test, then I used to try not to repeat those mistakes in the next test,” he adds.
Aditya had secured 97.8 percent marks in his Class 10 board exams.
He spoke on the importance of immediately clearing whatever doubts came up.
“One should know every small detail. Whenever a question comes or one is not able to understand it, one should ask and clear it immediately,” he says.
“The classes used to run for 4 to 5 hours, and after that I used to go home and study for 4 to 5 hours too, although it was not fixed as to which subject I would study and when,” says the JEE Main topper.
Looking ahead, he said he wished to pursue astrophysics after completing his BTech from IIT Bombay.
