New York Islanders forward Matt Martin has played 927 NHL games, 795 games in blue and orange over the course of a 15-year NHL career.
While the NHL dream started in Windsor, Ontario, it came to fruition on Feb. 9, 2010, when the Islanders battled the Nashville Predators.
At that time, Barry Trotz was the bench boss for Nashville.
Little did Trotz know that No. 46 in blue would go on to become an incredibly important piece for him while behind the Islanders bench from 2018-2021.
Martin, drafted in the fifth round (No. 148) of the 2008 NHL Draft, had himself an NHL debut.
The then 20-year-old recorded two assists, with two shots, three hits, and a penalty in a 4-3 shootout win at Nassau Coliseum to help snap a seven-game slide.
Martin played 14:41 minutes.
The now-grizzled veteran had the primary assist on a Bruno Gervais power-play goal at 19:03 of the second period to tie the game at 2-2 before his primary assist on a Mark Streit power-play goal tied the game at 3-3 with just 11.1 seconds to play in regulation to force overtime.
Here’s the interview after his first period in the show.
