Tesla Cybertruck Deliveries Delayed After Accelerator Concerns Arise amid Wave of Customer Complaints

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is “in contact with the manufacturer to gather additional information”

Tesla has reportedly delayed some upcoming deliveries of Cybertrucks amid issues related to the accelerator, just one of several problems buyers have pointed out since the vehicle hit the market.

Some Cybertruck buyers have reported their scheduled delivery dates were recently pushed back without any explanation, according to The Wall Street Journal.

In a post shared Saturday, April 13 on X, Tesla influencer @WholeMarsBlog said the company “has stopped all Cybertruck deliveries for seven days.”

A spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration told CNBC that it “is aware of this issue and is in contact with the manufacturer to gather additional information.”

Cybertrucks first hit the market in November 2023. Since then, dozens of people have shared stories about the issues they experienced with their Cybertrucks.

Among them is Jose Martinez, who said his accelerator got stuck while he was recently operating the vehicle at a local drag strip in Southern California, according to NBC News.

On Saturday, Martinez posted a TikTok video detailing the ordeal. He said a piece of the pedal “slid up” and out of place before becoming wedged in between the floorboard and a panel, causing the car to continue accelerating without him pressing the pedal.

“I was lucky I had a clear mind [and] didn’t panic,” Martinez said in the clip.

He later told NBC News that he was able to hit the brake, but “the moment I let go of the brake, it would lurch forward at full throttle again.”

“I had space where I could figure out what was going on,” Martinez explained. “It wasn’t a situation where there were cars in front of me or a building or a tree.”

Martinez’s video has been viewed more than six million times and received more than 212,000 likes as of Wednesday afternoon.

The accelerator pedal is just one of many issues raised regarding the Cybertruck’s design. In another video recently shared to TikTok, a Tesla driver showed how his overhead console had fallen down, and was unable to be put back in place.

The driver went on to say he brought his car to a dealership and spoke to them about the console, which operates as a gear shift, and was told there is currently no fix for the problem.

Some customers have also raised concerns about the dangers posed by the doors and front trunk of the car, which are said to be strong enough to sever fingers by multiple reviewers and customers.

Tesla did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
