Janhvi Kapoor Shows Us How To Indianise K-Beauty Staples For Desi Makeup Needs

Among the many reasons we look to Jahnvi Kapoor for beauty inspiration is the fact that she represents a lovely union of Korean and Indian makeup styles. Combining K-beauty staples with desi beauty elements, Janhvi knows how to make glowy, natural, and seamless Korean makeup elements her own with the addition of classic Indian makeup techniques.

Janhvi has her ‘glass skin’ game down pat, but mattifies skin for our humid climate

Glass skin is not only about dewy foundation, but also about sheer, translucent-looking skin that isn’t cakey. Janhvi has perfectly adapted this idea into something wearable for us desi girls.

She loves a dewy and fresh skin look with foundation that looks skin-like and natural, as is the trend in Korean beauty. She also uses minimal foundation on the nose, making the centre of the face look non-cakey and fresh.

On top of that, she also doesn’t opt for an all-over dewiness that could look sweaty and greasy in our humid climate. Powdering her skin around the sides of the nose and between the eyebrows, she makes sure her T-zone is matte, while keeping the rest of the face softly illuminated.

Janhvi highlights skin the Korean way, but for her own features

Korean makeup usually involves highlighting the nose and under-eye area. Janhvi adapts this for her features and loves doing a nose highlight.

But, because Janhvi has prominent cheeks, she also applies highlighter at the top of her cheekbones, even though highlighting the cheeks is not a common practice in K-Beauty and is more of a thing in the West.

She also uses more golden-toned highlighters which work for our warm Indian skin, as opposed to the paler, pink and white-toned shades common in K-beauty.

Janhvi’s lip colour is a K-beauty approved tint, but in shades desis love

Janhvi rarely wears lipstick the regular way. She nearly always blots her lipstick into a K-beauty style tint. But, while most Korean popstars and actresses wear paler lip stains, Janhvi opts for less neon, more muted hues.

Janhvi loves a wash of K Beauty-style sheer glitter on the lids, but pairs it with kajal

In the West, glitter is usually applied on top of a matte base, or comes in a colourful base itself. But in East Asia, sheer, translucent glitter is quite common, and is applied on bare eyelids to highlight the eyes.

Janhvi loves rocking this look, and it gives a beautiful sparkle to the eyes when it hits the light. But, while Korean stars pair this look with tightlined upper eyelids, Janhvi wears it in a more Indianised way.

Flaunting her love for our desi staple, kajal, Janhvi pairs her sheer glitter with heavier lashes and winged or smoky black eyeliner, adapting the makeup technique in her own Indian way.

Janhvi’s blush looks are also partially Korean, partially Indian

Korean and Japanese blush techniques involve applying blush higher, right above the apples of the cheeks, and on the nose. Janhvi applies blush on the nose, but for the cheeks, she changes the placement according to her features.

Sweeping blush along the outer part of the cheekbones, she pairs her Korean-style nose blush with AN Indo-Western style blush placed in a diagonal way along the cheekbones.
