A road in Loughborough is set to stay closed for weeks after “dangerous” loose cladding was reported on a building. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) taped off The Coneries at the Cradock Street junction, near the town centre, yesterday morning, Wednesday, January 24, after receiving several calls from members of the public.

Scaffolding was put up around the building so work can take place to make it safe. LFRS said it had contacted the landlord of the privately owned building and had spoken to him about “getting the cladding removed”. Scaffolding has been put up around the building so work can take place to make it safe.

The service added the road would remain out of use until there is no risk to the public. No injuries were reported.

Now, Leicestershire County Council has advised that the stretch of road between its junctions with Cradock Street and with Sparrow Hill will remain off-limits for some time. The closure could remain in place for up to 21 days, the authority has advised.

The closure “has been implemented for public safety due to an unsafe structure”, the notice from the council added. A diversion is in place. Drivers are advised to go via Clarence Street, Toothill Road, Fennel Street and Lemyngton Street and vice versa.
