Jamaal Williams admits Lions are his relationship rebound after Packers dumped him

Ex-Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams likens his new stint with the Detroit Lions to finding rebound love on an appreciate team.

Divisional rivalries are never pretty, so when a player leaves his team for a former foe, it’s often spite in light of unrequited love.

Former Green Bay Packers running back took the analogy to a whole new level, detailing exactly how the Packers are “that ex-gf” he had to leave.

#Lions RB Jamaal Williams likens GB return with Detroit to re-finding love: “Like that ex-gf I gotta go. I’m glad that I got a rebound and it was the Lions, they picked me up. Now they’re feeding me good, taking me to dinner. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Instead of staying in Green Bay, Williams signed with NFC North rival the Detroit Lions. No longer a backup to Aaron Jones, Williams is now feeling the love he feels he deserves in the Motor City.

“Now they’re feeding me good, taking me to dinner,” Williams said of his newly-beloved team. “Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Ex-Green Bay Packer Jamaal Williams describes the Detroit Lions as his “rebound”

Williams’ striking analogy is shocking, considering that when he initially left Green Bay, it seemed there were no hard feelings. In fact, Williams thanked the city, saying that he had “nothing but respect and love” for everyone in the Packers organization.

It’s not unusual that Williams was trying to process the breakup at the time, realizing just how undervalued he was when he actually set foot in Detroit. Williams had spent four seasons with the Packers after they selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Playing behind Jones, Williams never earned the starting role and hasn’t broken 600 rushing yards in any of his NFL seasons. After missing time on the COVID-19 reserve list and several subpar seasons, the Packers passed on resigning Williams in favor of A.J. Dillon. They also drafted seventh-rounder Kylin Hill this year to fill out the backfield.

On March 9, Williams signed a two-year deal with the Lions valued at $7.5 million. Finally an NFL starter, Williams has the chance to prove his potential for an exhilarating team headed by Dan “MCDC” Campbell.

Williams’ testimony shows that the team famous for biting kneecaps is also suited for mending broken hearts—and maybe breaking ankles, if Williams is shifty enough.
