New Delhi: In a meeting at the White House, US Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer and Colombian Acting Foreign Minister Luis Murillo discussed ways to deepen cooperation on a range of issues, including migration, a White House press release stated.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the US government said that the talks concentrated on ” strengthening their collaboration on migration, peace and security, and reviewed recent regional developments, including in Venezuela.” Finer welcomed Colombia’s efforts to address the migration issue and “thanked Colombia for its leadership on migration issues, including its plans to provide new lawful pathways to reduce irregular migration in the region.
“The two discussed the extension of three Safe Mobility Offices (SMOs) in Colombia, an initiative launched by the Biden administration in June 2023, which aims to facilitate “safe, orderly, and lawful migration to the United States and other countries.
“The US-Colombia High-Level Strategic Dialogue, held at the White House, helped advance shared bilateral goals ahead of the upcoming High-Level Dialogue in Bogota, scheduled for May.
