ITV's version of BBC's The Traitors is just days away and will be hosted by comedy legend
ITV are set to launch their own version of The Traitors in a matter of days with comedian Stephen Mangan as host.
Much like the hugely successful BBC series, the new show will see contestants lie to each other, take part in challenges and find out who the betrayers are. The Fortune Hotel will take ten couples to a luxury resort in the Caribbean where they have the chance to take home £250,000. Each couple will be handed a briefcase, with only one holding the cash.
The contestants then need to compete in challenges to try and uncover who has the money in their case. At the end of each day, the couple are able to swap of keep their briefcases. The couple who have the cash must lie and bluff their way out of any suspicion. One case also holds an early checkout card.
The Fortune Hotel runs for eight episodes and features commercial director Claire, 43, and barrister partner Daniel, 43, both from Gloucestershire. They took the opportunity to be on the show as a chance to step out of their comfort zone. Claire said: “We always embrace adventure and wanted to do something together. The opportunity to do something outside of your comfort zone is always a good thing.”
Husband Daniel admitted the show tested their relationship as he added: “I’d say all of the challenges, it was a real bonding experience for everyone, the sun was shining, we were all buzzing and it gave us a chance to all really get to know each other. There was also a funny moment when Claire and I fell out with each other as she wasn’t happy with how competitive I was, although I reminded her that the whole point of the show is to compete.’

Stephen Mangan revealed the hosting opportunity was a no brainer for him. “The opportunity to head to the Caribbean sounded very interesting on its own before you even get to what else is involved,” he said. “That’s the thing that first got my attention but when the game itself was explained to me and I played it, it’s just brilliant. The game is pretty simple but endlessly fascinating so a combination of that alongside the backdrop in which it was set was just pretty irresistible.
“People are endlessly fascinating to me as an actor and the reason you become an actor is because people and how they get on with each other, especially in moments of high stress is deeply fascinating. Human beings are complex and interesting so The Fortune Hotel felt like the perfect mix of entertainment and drama. It’s a way of putting people together under pressure set amongst a stunning location. The whole package was just incredibly intriguing to me so I had to be a part of it.”
The Traitors racked up an average audience of 6.4 million per episode when its second series aired on the BBC back in January. It is also a game built on strategy, suspicion and deception as players competed to uncover who in the group were ‘traitors’ while set in the Scottish Highlands.
The Fortune Hotel airs every Monday to Thursday at 9pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player from May 13th.
