'It's better than the original!' Britain's Got Talent's Simon Cowell takes a hilarious swipe at Alesha Dixon after a DOG performs one of her songs - but viewers were not impressed

Simon Cowell took a hilarious swipe at Alesha Dixon on Saturday’s Britain’s Got Talent as he stated that a dog performing one of her songs was ‘better than the original’.

The final round of auditions saw hopefuls try to impress Simon, Alesha, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli in the hope of bagging a place in the live semi-final rounds.

But when dog owner Michelle and her pet pooch Mouse took to the stage with a performance of Alesha’s 2008 track Breathe Slow, Simon couldn’t help but making a dig at her singing abilities.

Giving his verdict on Mouse’s audition, Simon said: ‘When I heard the song I thought it can’t be any better, but actually it’s better than the original!

‘I don’t usually say this, I’m being serious!’

Luckily, Alesha found the whole thing hilarious and burst into giggles when she heard the dog’s choice of song.

Meanwhile, Amanda suggested that the two could do a duet, while host Ant McPartlin suggested that the dog’s howling was a ‘cry for help’.

But despite the judges seeing the funny side of the act, viewers at home didn’t agree and soon took to Twitter to share their disappointment at having watched a dog ‘howling into a microphone’.

‘Whose going to pay to see a dog howl. Its a NO from me’ tweeted one viewer.

While a second shared: ‘Just cos its a dog and its cute don’t mean its good’.

‘Why are they clapping a dog howling into a microphone?’ questioned a third watcher.

‘What was the point of that’ asked an unimpressed fourth person.

With another adding: ‘Do people actually think their own dogs can sing , seriously nooooooooooooo.’
