City of Pittsfield declares snow emergency

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) — The city of Pittsfield has declared a snow emergency starting Monday at 7 p.m. and ending Wednesday at 7 p.m. Residents are asked to use off-street parking during the snow emergency.

In places where off-street parking is not available, the city asks people to abide by the following parking regulations:

• Park on the even side of the street between Monday at 7 p.m. and Tuesday at 7 p.m.
• Park on the odd side of the street between Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The McKay Street parking garage will be open to the public free of charge for overnight parking during the snow emergency. Residents in and around downtown Pittsfield are encouraged to utilize it.

Snow emergencies in the Capital Region

Other existing and signed parking regulations will remain active during the snow emergency. Any cars found violating the regulations above may be towed at the owner’s expense.

Residents are also advised sidewalks and ramps on their property must be clear of snow within 24 hours of the storm’s end. It is a violation to plow or dispose of snow from a resident’s property onto city streets and sidewalks. The city also encourages residents to clear snow from fire hydrants close to their property.
