Was Marco Odermatt in dieser Saison auf den Schnee bringt, entzückt nicht nur Schweizer Skifans. Alpinsportliebhaber auf der ganzen Welt sind fasziniert von den sportlichen Leistungen, aber auch vom Menschen, der diese Rennen für Rennen abzurufen vermag. Klar, dass bei solchen Schweizer Erfolgsgeschichten auch gerne Superlative in den Mund genommen werden. Doch kann man an diesem Punkt in Odermatts Karriere bereits behaupten, er sei einer der besten Skirennfahrer der Geschichte?

Schaut man sich den Gesamtweltcup an, fällt vor allem eines auf: Odermatts Dominanz. 375 Punkte Vorsprung sind es zurzeit auf den zweitplatzierten Aleksander Kilde und das mit drei Riesenslaloms, zwei Super-G und zwei Abfahrten, die erst noch gefahren werden und in denen Odermatt für gewöhnlich gute Platzierungen erzielt.
Zum Vergleich: Alexis Pinturault gewann 2021 seine grosse Kristallkugel mit 167 Punkten Vorsprung auf Marco Odermatt, Kilde im Jahr davor mit 54 Punkten auf Pinturault. Um also auf mit Odermatt vergleichbare Dominanz zu treffen, muss man sich schon an die Ära von Marcel Hirscher zurückerinnern. Dieser gewann zwischen 2012 und 2019 achtmal in Folge den Gesamtweltcup und erfuhr sich dabei nur dreimal einen Punktevorsprung auf den Zweitplatzierten, der grösser war, als derjenige von Odermatt es momentan ist.
Global Tech News DailyFür Odermatts sportliche Grösse spricht auch, dass er in Technik- wie auch in Speed-Disziplinen Topresultate herausfahren kann. Besonders die Abfahrtswertung, welche Odermatt in der letzten Saison als 16. abschloss und in der er momentan auf Rang vier steht, zeigt, wie vielseitig die Stärken des Nidwaldners sind. Momentan befindet er sich in drei der vier meistgefahrenen Disziplinen unter den besten Fünf. Dies bis zum Ende der Saison zu bleiben, gelang in den letzten 20 Jahren lediglich Aksel Lund Svindal (2009), Bode Miller (2005) und Stephan Eberharter (2002). Odermatt etabliert sich also jetzt schon in einer Reihe von Topfahrern, welche den Skizirkus über eine lange Zeit prägten.
Ob und wie lange Odermatt sein hohes Level aufrechthalten kann, wird die Zukunft zeigen. Sicher ist, dass er in seiner momentanen Verfassung Ergebnisse herausfährt, die mit denjenigen der grössten Skifahrer der Geschichte verglichen werden können. Linus Schauffert

Marco Odermatt hat Talent, das ist unbestritten, sogar sehr viel Talent. Aber er hat halt auch einfach mal einen Lauf. Es gibt diese Phasen in einem Sportlerleben, wo einfach alles klappt, in denen man das Gefühl hat, jeden Ball im Tor unterbringen oder jede Kurve auf den Schnee zaubern zu können. Umso gefährlicher ist es, sein Können anhand dieser Momente festsetzen zu wollen. Denn der Flow kann schnell wieder vorbei sein. Und wahre Topsportler zeichnen sich sowieso mehr durch Konstanz als durch einzelne Lichtmomente aus. Zwei Saisons guten Skifahrens reichen nicht aus, um historischen Rang zu erhalten.
Und wer weiss schon, wo Marco Odermatt in ein paar Jahren stehen wird. Der Norweger Henrik Kristoffersen etwa galt lange als Wunderkind, gewann Slalom um Slalom. Sein erster Gesamtweltcup-Sieg schien nur eine Frage der Zeit. Jetzt ist der Norweger 27 Jahre alt, im besten Skifahreralter und im Stangenwald biederes Mittelmass.
Kommt hinzu, dass nach dem Rücktritt von Legende Marcel Hirscher ein gewisses Vakuum im Skiweltcup entstanden ist. Gerade im Riesenslalom, mit 14 seiner 24 Weltcup-Podestplätze Odermatts Paradedisziplin, fehlte nach dem Rücktritt des Österreichers ein eigentlicher Tonangeber. Odermatt, dieser aufstrebende, unbekümmerte und sympathische Jungspund, sprang in die Bresche, er war einfach zur richtigen Zeit am richtigen Ort.
25-jährig wird der Nidwaldner dieses Jahr, zehn Weltcup-Siege stehen zu Buche. Das ist ansehnlich, aber bei weitem kein Topwert. Gerade in den technischen Disziplinen, und dazu gehört der Riesenslalom, kommt es regelmässig vor, dass Fahrerinnen und Fahrer schon in jungen Jahren Topplatzierungen erzielen. Odermatt fühlt sich zwar auch in den schnellen Disziplinen wohl, vier Siege im Super-G zeugen davon. Dies birgt aber auch Risiken. Die Karrieren vieler Speed-Fahrer sind geprägt durch Stürze und schwere Verletzungen.
Bleibt Odermatt davon verschont, ist gut möglich, dass er dereinst Ski-Geschichte schreiben wird. Ohnehin gilt aber: Bei Geschichte erkennen wir immer erst im Nachhinein, dass sie geschrieben wurde. Odermatt stellt in dieser Hinsicht keine Ausnahme dar. Darius Meyer
