Israel clarifies that Hamas is not responsible for shelling of Israeli territory

israel clarifies that hamas is not responsible for shelling of israeli territory

The Israeli Army clarified Friday that the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) “has not yet” fired rockets into Israeli territory, stressing that the only one responsible for the bombings was Islamic Jihad.

This was stated by a senior IDF official in statements reported by the newspaper ‘Haaretz’. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) believe that Hamas will not join the campaign since “they can only lose”.

In the event that they do, the increase in the number of inhabitants of the Gaza Strip working in Israel, as well as the greater control over Palestinian exports by the Israeli state, would serve as a pressure argument for Hamas not to enter the dispute, according to military sources consulted by the newspaper.

The high-ranking official of the Hebrew State Army has maintained that, for this reason, the Islamic Resistance Movement “is not anxious to be dragged into a prolonged confrontation with Israel”, as was the case in May 2021.

However, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh blamed Israel for the escalation of violence after killing the number two of Islamic Jihad, Taisir al-Jabari, on Friday.

The head of the Political Bureau of the Resistance Movement in Gaza stressed that “the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in the besieged Gaza Strip point to its hostile intentions to attack the Palestinian people under false pretexts,” Hamas said in a statement.

For this reason, they have reiterated to Israel the need to put an end to “its aggression” against Gaza.

So far, the Al Quds Brigades – the armed wing of Islamic Jihad – has launched more than 100 projectiles against Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, while the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have attacked with projectiles strategic locations in different parts of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli counter-attacks have claimed the lives of ten people, including a child, and injured 65 people, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The exchange of missiles between the parties comes after Israeli authorities announced a military operation, dubbed ‘Dawn’, which has begun with the announcement of the death of a commander of Islamic Jihad military forces, identified as Taisir al Jabari, a death confirmed by the militia itself.
