SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups has been exempted from taking part in mandatory South Korean military service.

According to a statement by the group’s agency PLEDIS Entertainment, the K-pop idol was exempted because of his knee injury in 2023.

“Due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee joint, S.Coups underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery and anterolateral ligament reconstruction surgery. Because it was a major surgery, he has been undergoing physical rehabilitation therapy for a long time, starting from last year up until now,” the label said.

For these reasons, S.Coups has been classified as Grade 5, meaning that he is excused from mandatory military service during peacetime. But in the case of a war, those in Grade 5 are required to perform labor in support of the military.

S.Coups and his fellow member Jeonghan were unable to take part in SEVENTEEN’s concerts in the Philippines last January due to their respective injuries. They are set to resume group activities this March, starting with SEVENTEEN’s FOLLOW AGAIN encore tour in Korea.

SEVENTEEN made a comeback with their 11th mini album “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN” in October 2023. They released the mini album “FML” and the single “Super” last April.

The group also released their 4th album “Face the Sun” in 2022, and the repackaged album, “SECTOR 17” in July of that same year.
