What to Expect From CD Projekt Red in 2024

  • CD Projekt Red has multiple games in development, including a new Witcher game and an original IP called Project Hadar.
  • The Witcher 3 will receive official mod support in 2024, allowing players to edit quests and create new ones.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 fans may have to wait a while for news on a sequel, as early development on the game won’t start until 2024.

CD Projekt Red has had a strange last few years. One of the most anticipated games of all time, Cyberpunk 2077 had an infamously devastating launch back in 2020, with its technical issues on console causing it to be pulled from some major marketplaces. But over the last few years, CD Projekt Red has managed to do something that fans once thought impossible, not only redeeming Cyberpunk 2077 through updates, but making it a genuinely excellent, must-play title with the help of a stellar DLC expansion.

It seems fair to say that 2023 was somewhat of a redemption year for CD Projekt Red, and at least in the eyes of most fans, it’s a developer that’s now ready to jump back to the top of the gaming industry. And CD Projekt Red isn’t going to get there by just resting on its laurels. There are currently five separate CD Projekt Red video games in the works, and in 2024, fans might get to see more from one or two of them.

CD Projekt Red Will Bring Mod Support to The Witcher 3 in 2024

Back in November 2023, CD Projekt Red announced that it was bringing an official mod editor to The Witcher 3 at some point in 2024. Available completely for free, The Witcher 3’s official mod editor will only be available for those on PC. Though CD Projekt Red hasn’t gone into full details about it just yet, this Witcher 3 mod editor will allow players to edit existing quests, or create entirely new ones, presumably with many of the game’s assets being available in one streamlined location.

CD Projekt Red Could Reveal The Next Witcher Game in 2024

But what fans are really hoping they see from CD Projekt Red in 2024 is some kind of new Witcher announcement or reveal. There are currently three Witcher projects in the works at CDPR, codenamed Polaris, Sirius, and Canis Majoris. If any of these Witcher projects are going to be announced in 2024, the most likely candidate is Polaris, the next mainline entry in the Witcher saga, and a direct sequel to The Witcher 3. Set to be the start of a new trilogy, CDPR has previously mentioned that Polaris will release “no earlier than 2025,” which means that a 2024 reveal isn’t out of the realm of possibility, even if it’s just a quick 30-second trailer showing the new trilogy’s protagonist.

The multiplayer spinoff, project Sirius, would have been another Witcher game in the running for a reveal in 2024, but back in March 2023 the game apparently had to restart its development due to issues with its creative vision. Sirius’ developer, The Molasses Flood, suffered a round of layoffs soon after. This all probably means that Sirius is still a ways off, and the likelihood of it showing up at all in 2024 isn’t high. The remake of the first Witcher, codenamed Canis Majoris, also isn’t likely to appear this year, with its release window not even opening until 2026.

CD Projekt Red Probably Won’t Have Any Cyberpunk News

Coming hot off the heels of Phantom Liberty, many fans are desperate for some more Cyberpunk 2077 news, but unfortunately, CD Projekt Red probably won’t have any to share in 2024. According to the last reports, Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, codenamed Orion, won’t start early development until 2024, meaning that fans likely won’t see anything major from the series for quite some time.

CD Projekt Red also has its own original IP currently in the works, codenamed Project Hadar, but this title is in very early development and probably won’t be seen at all in 2024.
