is your child silently addicted to vaping? know the telltale signs

New Delhi: Smoking in any form, even the allegedly safer form of it known as vaping, is unsafe for all and just as big a risk factor in terms of raising disease risk – from high blood pressure to obesity to most importantly cancer risk. In an era of misinformation, it is quite likely that young children would find themselves getting addicted to e-cigarettes assuming that they are safer, easily accessible and enjoyable. But as a parent, is there a way to ascertain whether or not a child is into getting accustomed to vape? Read on to know the telltale signs that parents can watch out for to know whether or not their child is getting addicted to e-cigarettes.

  1. Nosebleeds: Nosebleeds may occur in youngsters and not always for lethal reasons. As per the National Health Service of England, vaping can contribute to nosebleeds by reducing moisture within nostrils which happens due to a chemical known as propylene glycol.
  2. Under eye circles: Due to the same compound, vaping can cause dehydration and may result in dark under eye circles.
  3. Excess thirst: The same problematic chemical can make your teen feel more thirsty than usual as a consequence of dehydration.
  4. Mouth sores: If your child is complaining of mouth sores too often, it could be due to use of nicotine that comes from vape or e-cigarettes. Vaping for an extended period of time can cause visible physical signs and the irritants from the vapour released can take a toll on the immune system. It might also force your child to cough more than they previously did.
