It is time to get the BBQ out as temperatures hit a glorious 22C and the sun shines down across Ireland for the next two days before the showers make a return on Sunday.

Although it is set to turn more unsettled from Sunday onwards with rain and showers at times, with the temperature becoming much cooler, the coming two days are set to be dry and full of sun, with highs of 22C on Saturday.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather has said that the small patches of fog which formed will start to clear on Friday morning, giving way to “plenty of sunshine” and the mercury hitting up to 21C, meaning it is time to get the BBQ ready for Saturday.

He wrote: “Patches of fog clearing tomorrow morning to give a lovely Friday with plenty of sunshine and up to 21C. Now time to clean the BBQ before the showers return Sunday”.

Unfortunately, Met Éireann has seconded the impending rain, forecasting long spells of rain, sometimes heavy with the chance of isolated thunderstorms, across Sunday. This will continue into Monday, with further outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms, heaviest over the eastern half of the country.

The rain will keep pouring, with an early morning band of heavy rain moving east on Tuesday, with localised flooding possible. Here is Met Éireann’s forecast for the week ahead:

Friday

Today, early morning patches of mist will clear to give a warm and dry day with good sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 17C to 22C with light to moderate southerly breezes, coolest near the south coast and warmest over the northern half of the country.

Tonight will be dry with clear spells. Patches of mist and fog will develop in the south early in the night and more widely overnight. Lowest temperatures of 7C to 10C with light variable breezes.

Saturday

On Saturday morning patches of mist and fog will clear. It will be another warm and dry day with good spells of sunshine.

In the evening, clouds will increase from the west and some showers will develop in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 18C to 22C with moderate southerly breezes.

On Saturday night clouds will increase and showers will develop overnight, mainly over the western half of the country. Lowest temperatures of 9C to 12C with light variable breezes.

Sunday

Sunday will bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells with showers or longer spells of rain, some heavy with the chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C in light and variable breezes. On Sunday night, showers will gradually die out. However, rain will move in from the southwest by morning. Lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C with light breezes.

Monday

Monday will bring further outbreaks of rain or showers, heaviest over the eastern half of the country with a chance of thunderstorms.

Highest temperatures of 13C to 17C with light to moderate northerly breezes developing, possibly fresh near some coasts. There’ll be further showers in the east on Monday night.

Tuesday

Early on Tuesday morning a band of persistent or heavy rain will move in from the east and will extend westwards. Localised flooding is possible, especially in Leinster.

It will be noticeably cooler than previous days with highest temperatures of 11C to 14C and moderate northwest winds. On Tuesday night there will be further spells of rain or showers.

Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday and Thursday will continue quite cool with further showers, some heavy. Temperatures will range from about 11C to 15C with mostly light to moderate breezes.
