IPL 2024: Record-breaking Gill-Sudharsan partnership, Sai surpasses Sachin as fastest Indian to 1000 IPL runs
The partnership between Gujarat Titans’ captain, Shubman Gill, and opener Sai Sudharsan broke records in IPL history. The remarkable display by the pair propelled GT to reach 231 runs in a match that began poorly.
Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan surpassed legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Chennai Super Kings’ Ruturaj Gaikwad on Friday to claim the title of the fastest Indian ever to reach 1000 IPL runs. Sudharsan achieved this milestone during the clash against CSK in Titans’ home game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, marking his 25th IPL appearance.
While Sachin took 31 innings to reach the 1000-run mark, Gaikwad previously matched his record. Surpassing both Sachin and Gaikwad, Sudharsan now holds the record for the quickest Indian to achieve this landmark. Tilak Varma follows closely behind, attaining 1000 runs in 33 IPL outings.
In the showdown against CSK, Sudharsan also notched his first-ever IPL century, scoring a remarkable 103 runs off just 51 deliveries. Sudharsan and his skipper Shubman Gill displayed a sensational batting performance, both reaching centuries and propelling Titans to a formidable total of 231 for three.
Record-Breaking Partnership
Gill, with 104 runs off 55 balls, and Sudharsan formed a destructive partnership, amassing 210 runs, the highest for any wicket in this IPL season. They also equalled Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul’s record for the highest-ever IPL opening partnership of 210 runs.
While Gill’s outstanding innings included nine fours and six maximums, Sudharsan’s maiden IPL hundred comprised five boundaries and seven sixes.
