India’s top cyber agency has warned of a vulnerability in older versions of Apple‘s mobile operating software, asking users to immediately update to the latest version which is iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1.

An advisory issued by the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) on Wednesday said, “A Vulnerability has been reported in Apple iOS and iPadOS which could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code and gain elevated privileges on a targeted system.”

In the note which was given a high severity rating, CERT-In said that successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker with kernel privileges to execute arbitrary code and gain elevated privileges on a targeted system.

It also said that “this vulnerability is currently being exploited” and users are advised to “apply patches urgently.”

It has also issued a warning for encrypted messaging service Signal on Thursday saying that a vulnerability has been reported in the Signal application for Android, which could result in sending random images along with intended ones to recipients. It has asked users to upgrade to signal version 5.17.3 for Android from the Google Play Store.

On Wednesday, IT and telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Lok Sabha that CERT-In has issued alerts to over 700 organisations across several sectors to enable active cyber-threat prevention.

It has also issued a warning for encrypted messaging service Signal on Thursday saying that a vulnerability has been reported in the Signal application for Android, which could result in sending random images along with intended ones to recipients.
