'I still think they'll nick it' - Wayne Rooney delivers Premier League title race admission

Wayne Rooney has delivered his verdict on who he thinks will win this season’s Premier League.

The Manchester United goalscoring legend won five top-flight titles during his Old Trafford days and is well-placed to offer his opinion on which team will hold their nerves in the final few weeks of the season.

Arsenal currently lead the way from Liverpool by goal difference with both sides sitting on 71 points. Manchester City, meanwhile, are a point further back.

Liverpool missed the chance to go it alone at the top of the table having been pegged back by Man United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Luis Diaz gave the Reds a first-half lead but Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo struck back for the hosts.

Having dominated the match for large periods, Liverpool were left to rely on a last-gasp penalty from Mohamed Salah to ensure a point.

While insisting there are plenty of twists and turns left in the season, with seven matches to go, Rooney feels that it will come down to experience and, in that regard, both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola have the edge over Mikel Arteta.

And in an admission that must have been difficult for a former Manchester United and Everton player, Rooney is tipping the team from his home city of Liverpool to deliver their second Premier League title under Klopp.

Rooney thinks Liverpool will ‘nick’ Premier League title

“I know it’s only seven games, but there is a lot that will happen from now until the end of the season,” Rooney told Premier League Productions.

“I loved Klopp’s [post-match] interview there because inside he will be fuming. But he has shown his calmness and experience of winning the Premier League title before.

“He has shown his experience that Guardiola has as well, but we are yet to see if Arteta has that in the last few weeks, so I think that will be important.

“I still think Liverpool will nick it.”
