Intrigue surrounds Ukrainian statement on Crimea's Cape Chauda, launch site for Russian Shaheds

Cape Chauda is one of the locations from which Russians launch Shahed drones towards Ukraine. The Ukrainian Armed Forces intrigued by the statement about the possibility of a strike on Chauda made by the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Air Force, Illia Yevlash.

When asked if Ukraine has the means to reach Cape Chauda in Crimea, the spokesperson said, “That’s classified information.”

Explaining further, Yevlash stated that the Russians have several launch sites for Shaheds. These include the Kursk and Belgorod regions, as well as Cape Chauda in Crimea. Moreover, the occupiers rotate the launch sites to confuse Ukrainian air defense.

“They (drones) can change routes within the country. For example, they might meet, then split up, then, for instance, fly around a city and attempt to penetrate a target. So they (Shaheds) are programmed; the Russians launching these drones analyze routes and devise new areas where they haven’t launched yet, or analyze previous information to use these drones in the future,” the spokesperson said.

Tonight, Russian forces launched 24 Shaheds over Ukraine. The launches originated from Cape Chauda and the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. Air defense systems were active in the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Ukrainian forces shot down 23 Shaheds.

Other launch sites for Shaheds by Russia

Previously, British intelligence reported that Russia launches kamikaze drones into Ukraine from five directions. These include Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, the Kursk and Belgorod regions.

According to British intelligence, the number of launch sites for Shaheds may increase.
