Internationale Klimaaktivisten protestieren mit Thunberg in Stockholm

Wenige Tage vor der Weltklimakonferenz COP26 in Glasgow haben Aktivisten um Greta Thunberg ihrer Forderung nach mehr Klimaschutz noch einmal Nachdruck verliehen.

Bei einem Protestmarsch durch Thunbergs Heimatstadt Stockholm waren am Freitag neben Schwedinnen und Schweden auch Klimaschützer aus besonders betroffenen Ländern in Afrika, Asien und Lateinamerika dabei, die in einigen Tagen zur COP26 nach Schottland fahren werden.

Thunberg stellte ein Video online, das einige Hundert vor allem jüngere Demonstranten auf ihrem Zug vom schwedischen Parlament bis zum Vasaparken im Norden von Stockholm zeigte. “Was müssen wir tun? Das Klima retten! Wann? Jetzt!”, riefen die Teilnehmer im Chor.

Parallel sollten nach Angaben der Klimabewegung Fridays for Future auch an Hunderten weiteren Orten auf der Welt Proteste stattfinden. Allein in der deutschen Hauptstadt Berlin riefen Tausende Demonstranten die künftige Regierung zu mehr Klimaschutz auf.

Die in Stockholm protestierenden Aktivisten aus aller Welt wiesen unter anderem darauf hin, welch existenzielle Bedeutung der Kampf für das Klima in ihren eigenen Ländern habe.

“Es ist so wichtig für Klimaaktivisten und die Jugend aus dem globalen Süden, für Klimagerechtigkeit zu streiken, weil wir diejenigen sind, die heute der Klimakrise begegnen und ihre Folgen bereits sehen”, sagte die philippinische Aktivistin Mitzi Jonelle Tan telefonisch der Nachrichtenagentur dpa. “Wir kämpfen nicht für unsere Zukunft, sondern für unsere Gegenwart.”

Deshalb sei es zugleich äusserst wichtig, dass Menschen aus solchen Erdteilen bei der COP26 dabei seien, sagte die 23-Jährige. Die 18-jährige Mexikanerin Adriana Calderon merkte an, dass es für ärmere Weltregionen auch um Sichtbarkeit gehe. “Die Stimmen des globalen Südens, der am stärksten von der Klimakrise betroffen ist, sind so viele Jahre lang ignoriert worden”, sagte sie der dpa.
