marcos to power sector: ‘people’s patience is not a renewable resource’

MANILA, Philippines — Unlike some energy sources, the patience of the public is not a “renewable resource” that should be taken for granted.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday made the remark for the ceremonial launch of the Energy Sector Emergency Operations Center (ESEOC) and the symbolic turnover of a miniature Mobile Energy System (MES) at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.

“We cannot count on people’s resilience alone. People’s patience is not a renewable resource,” Marcos said in a keynote speech read by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Marcos also called the development of the ESEOC and MES an “ important milestone” which would provide relief to the power problems of the public.

The ESEOC is meant to enable the Department of Energy to coordinate disaster response to prevent or mitigate power disruptions in calamity-affected areas.

On the other hand, the MES is geared to improve access to electricity of remote communities, especially during natural disasters, and to thwart cyber threats to power utilities.

“These remarkable undertakings of innovation demonstrate how we capitalize on technological advancements and how we can provide proactive solutions to the energy challenges that beset our country,” Marcos also said.
