The New England Patriots have just announced Jerod Mayo as their new head coach, a day after the organization and Bill Belichick agreed to part ways after a 24-year run that included six Super Bowl wins.

Details were still being worked out on Friday, but the former linebacker played eight NFL seasons and won a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots during the 2014 season after being drafted by New England as the 10th overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Jerod immediately rose to the top of the list of viable Belichick successors after the Patriots took the unique step of announcing that they were giving the assistant a long-term extension last offseason.

Jerod, along with Belichick’s son and fellow linebackers coach Steve Belichick, handled the play calling duties for the Patriots defense over the past two seasons. His younger brother, Deron, is currently the assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Patriots.

Now, at 37 years old, Jerod is the youngest head coach in the NFL, overtaking Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams.

He and his wife, Chantel Rostant, reside in a $2.5million home in North Attleborough, Massachusettes, along with their four children. They have three daughters named Chya, Chyanne, and Chylo, as well as a son named Jerod Jr.

Chya is the eldest of the three girls, and was born in 2010, while Jerod Jr. arrived ‘exactly one year later to the day.’ Chyanne is believed to be the youngest. She was born in 2014. It’s unclear when Chylo was born.

The Mayos tied the knock back in July 2012. Their house – a 42-mile drive south of Boston – was built on two separate lots and includes five bedrooms, five baths, a spa room with a hot tub, a finished basement with a movie theater, a billiards room. The property also contains a pool with a waterfall, a fire pit and a complete outdoor kitchen .

Chantel has amassed a large social media following with over 71,000 followers on her Instagram page, @mrsmayo51.

She also has a career of her own, and according to her profile’s bio, she is a cosmetologist and haircare ‘guru,’ as well as a ‘creative’ cook, a floral and event designer, and philanthropist.

In 2016, she founded her own children’s clothing collection called The Brand Finale -‘an exclusive curated boutique collection’ that ‘possesses chic, modern, on-trend styles, with attention to detail and quality that ensures that clothes will last for years,’ according to the company’s website.

Chantel is described as a ‘mompreneur redefining cohesive children’s style’ on the website.

She has an ‘extensive background’ in beauty products and worked with celebrities in the past. Furthermore, Chantel books weddings and events and works as a floral designer through her company, CM Creative Experience.

Jerod isn’t expected to have the same control over personnel matters like Belichick did for most of his tenure with the Patriots. Along with being coach, Belichick also served as New England’s de facto general manager.

But Patriots owner Robert Kraft pointed out on Thursday that Belichick didn’t receive that power until after he won his third Super Bowl with the team following the 2004 season and that Belichick ‘earned it and it worked pretty well for most of the time.’

That means a new general manager hire, or some other restructuring of the front office, is likely next on Kraft’s plate. ‘I think it’s good to have checks and balances,’ Kraft said.
