Indian Railways Latest Update: A total of seven railway stations in Uttar Pradesh will be renamed soon. This comes after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the proposal of the State Government. For renaming a station, the station administration must get a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the MHA. Since independence, more than 100 stations have been renamed across the country.
Process for Renaming Railway Stations In India
Ministry of Railways can’t make changes or rename stations on their own. The proposal has to be started by the station administration. Once a particular name is approved by the state government, the proposal is sent to the MHA for further approval. The ministry accords its approval, keeping the Railway Ministry in the loop.
Once officially notified, the Railways start the remaining process such as new station codes, the changes in the ticketing system, platform signage, etc. In general, the station’s name is written in three languages – Hindi, English, and the local language.
Renaming of Seven Railway Stations in Uttar Pradesh
According to the ET report, seven stations will be renamed in Uttar Pradesh including – Fursatganj, Kasimpur Halt, Jais City, Bani, Misrauli, Nihalgarh, and Akbarganj. The report added that Fursatganj railway station will be renamed as Tapeshwarnath Dham, Kasimpur Halt as Jais City, Jais City as Guru Gorakhnath Dham, Bani as Swami Paramhans, Misrauli as Maa Kalikan Dham, Nihalgarh as Maharaja Bijli Pasi, and Akbarganj as Maa Kalikan Dham. The official notification for the changes will be issued soon.

It has renamed Ayodhya as Ayodhya Dham railway station, Allahabad Junction as Prayagraj Junction, Mughasarai Junction as Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Chennai Central as MGR Chennai Central, Baroda as Vadodara, Bulsar as Valsad, Olavakkot as Palghat, Bellasis Road as Mumbai Central, Bombay as Mumbai, Poona as Pune, Sholapur as Solapur, etc.
