india will hold g20 meet in j&k; overrides pakistan objections in un
New Delhi: In May, India will convene a high official-level gathering of G20 culture ministries in Jammu and Kashmir, defying objections from Pakistan, which had urged member states such as China, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia at the United Nations to prevent the Indian government from convening such a meeting in Union territory.
According to official sources, senior officials from the G20 and guest countries will meet to discuss Indian presidency priorities such as cultural property protection and restitution, harnessing living heritage for a sustainable future, promoting cultural industries, and leveraging digital technology for cultural protection.
India’s permanent envoy Ruchira Kamboj told the UN earlier this week that India will hold 56 meetings spanning the length and breadth of the country, carrying G20 from “Kashmir in the north to Kanyakumari in the south”.
She also stated that during India’s chairmanship, G20 meetings will be conducted in all 28 states and eight union territories. Arunachal Pradesh will also host a G20-related summit next week.
The United States, China, and Indonesia conducted G20 summits in 12, 14, and 25 cities, respectively.
The Group of Twenty (G20) is the world’s main platform for economic cooperation. It is crucial in shaping and improving global governance and architecture on all major international economic challenges.
From 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023, India will preside over the G20.
