After 40 overs,South Africa Women 198/4 ( Mignon du Preez 22 , Marizanne Kapp 12)

Deepti bowls out the final over of the second powerplay, conceding just three singles from it with the required rate now touching the seven-and-a-half mark. South Africa need 77 in the last 10 overs. What will give the Proteas camp confidence will be the presence of two match-winners in Du Preez and Kapp at the centre, both more than capable of guiding the team home. The Indians, on the other hand, aren’t giving the batters any room for the big hits with the spinners especially bowling the tight lines.

FOUR! Kapp gives the Indians a reminder of the kind of form that she’s in at the moment as she crunches the ball past extra cover to collect her first boundary of the innings. Follows it up with a brace three balls later and a single. Seven from the over. SA need 80 off 66 with six wickets in hand.

13:02 (IST)

After 38 overs,South Africa Women 188/4 ( Mignon du Preez 21 , Marizanne Kapp 3)

Deepti Sharma replaces Sneh Rana. Three singles collected in the first four deliveries before du Preez flicks the ball through the midwicket region, coming back for a second. Five from the over.

12:59 (IST)

After 37 overs,South Africa Women 183/4 ( Mignon du Preez 18 , Marizanne Kapp 1)

Another superb over from Harmanpreet Kaur as her golden arm continues to keep India in the hunt for a semi-final spot, the vice-captain trapping Luus LBW in the first ball. Just one from the over along with the wicket. Marizanne Kapp joins du Preez at the centre.

12:58 (IST)

OUT! What a review by the Indians! An LBW appeal against skipper Luus is turned down by the umpire, and the Indians decide to take this upstairs. Luus had lunged forward and was hit on the knee roll. Impact is along the off stump, and the ball was found to be hitting leg, leading to South Africa losing their fourth wicket. SA 182/4

12:55 (IST)

After 36 overs,South Africa Women 182/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 22 , Mignon du Preez 18)

12:46 (IST)

After 35 overs,South Africa Women 177/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 21 , Mignon du Preez 14)

Single collected off each delivery of this over barring the fourth, as Luus and du Preez continue to rotate the strike between themselves and keep the asking rate under check. South Africa need less than 100 to win now, the equation being 98 off 90 balls with seven wickets in hand.

12:43 (IST)

After 34 overs,South Africa Women 172/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 18 , Mignon du Preez 12)

12:38 (IST)

After 33 overs,South Africa Women 167/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 15 , Mignon du Preez 10)

Meghna Singh returns, replacing Gayakwad. Three singles conceded in the first four deliveries. Meghna concedes a wide down the leg side in the penultimate ball, with Ghosh needlessly throwing the ball to cover to allow an extra run to be collected. Five from the over. Time for the players to have a drink.

12:33 (IST)

After 32 overs,South Africa Women 162/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 14 , Mignon du Preez 8)

Five from Kaur’s fourth over including a double in the third delivery. Both Luus and du Preez are in good nick with the bat at the moment; Luus has struck three half-centuries so far in the tournament while du Preez struck an unbeaten 38 against the West Indians before the match got abandoned due to rain. The pair can bring South Africa back in contention with a solid partnership, and let’s not forget, Marizanne Kapp will be coming in next.

12:29 (IST)

After 31 overs,South Africa Women 157/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 11 , Mignon du Preez 6)

12:26 (IST)

After 29 overs,South Africa Women 148/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 7 , Mignon du Preez 1)

Tidy over from Gayakwad with just three singles coming from it. The left-arm spinner’s back to doing what she does best — choke the flow of runs and build dot-ball pressure. With two new batters at the crease, this is a golden chance for the Indians to seize control and work towards a victory.

12:20 (IST)

After 28 overs,South Africa Women 145/3 ( Sune Luus (C) 5 , Mignon du Preez 0)

Skipper Sune Luus gets off the mark with a boundary in the second delivery, sweeping towards fine leg. Kaur though, nets the big fish in the penultimate ball, breaching Wolvaardt’s defence and rattling the stumps as the in-form opener departs for 80. Six runs and a wicket from the over. Team India are back in the hunt and how!

12:18 (IST)

OUT! One wicket leads to another, and this time it’s Harmanpreet Kaur who gets rid of the dangerous Laura Wolvaardt, who is clean bowled for 80! SA 145/3

After 27 overs,South Africa Women 139/2 ( Laura Wolvaardt 79 , Sune Luus (C) 0)

Excellent over from Gayakwad. Goodall nearly perishes in the first ball after chipping the ball over midwicket, but is stumped in the last delivery as she misses out on her half-century by just one run. Two runs and a wicket from the over, with the left-arm spinner getting the much-needed breakthrough for the Indians.

12:14 (IST)

OUT! Rajeshwari Gayakwad gets the breakthrough, and Lara Goodall will be gutted to have missed out on her half-century by a whisker! Dances down the track looking to push the ball past the bowler, only for the ball to sneak in through her defence. Ghosh whips the bails off in a flash. SA 139/2

12:11 (IST)

After 26 overs,South Africa Women 137/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 78 , Lara Goodall 48)

12:06 (IST)

After 25 overs,South Africa Women 133/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 76 , Lara Goodall 46)

Three singles collected in the first four deliveries of the over before Goodall pushes for a second after running the ball down the ground, coming back for a brace. South Africa cruising towards the target at the halfway stage of the innings with two set batters at the crease and the partnership worth 119 at the moment.

12:04 (IST)

After 24 overs,South Africa Women 128/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 74 , Lara Goodall 43)

Wolvaardt and Goodall continue to rotate the strike between themselves through singles, with four of them coming in Sharma’s sixth over of the day.

12:04 (IST)

After 22 overs,South Africa Women 121/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 71 , Lara Goodall 39)

Deepti Sharma returns to the attack in place of Vastrakar. Goodall collects a single first ball, before Wolvaardt smacks the ball through the midwicket region to collect her 11th boundary. Single off each of the last two balls. Seven from the over.

11:57 (IST)

After 21 overs,South Africa Women 114/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 66 , Lara Goodall 37)

The boundaries continue to flow for the Proteas as Goodall brings out the reverse sweep at the start of this over, beating the backward point fielder. Three singles collected in the remaining five deliveries.

11:49 (IST)

After 20 overs,South Africa Women 107/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 65 , Lara Goodall 31)

Wolvaardt pushes for a risky second after pulling towards deep midwicket at the start of this over. Follows it up with a thick outside edge through the vacant slip cordon, the ball racing away to the third man fence for a four. Wolvaardt collects a second boundary in the over with a superb cover drive off the last ball. 12 from the over. South Africa go past the 100-mark in this over, needing another 168 to win from 180 balls with nine wickets in hand.

After 18 overs,South Africa Women 91/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 51 , Lara Goodall 29)

Vastrakar continues, and collects the first maiden of the innings, with just a leg bye being added to the South African total in this over.

11:42 (IST)

After 17 overs,South Africa Women 90/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 51 , Lara Goodall 29)

Rana replaces Gayakwad on the other side of the drinks break, conceding four from her second over including a wide in the fourth delivery.

11:34 (IST)

After 16 overs,South Africa Women 86/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 50 , Lara Goodall 27)

FOUR! The boundaries continue to flow for the Proteas with Goodall flicking a length ball from Vastrakar past square leg at the start of the 16th over. Collects a single three balls later. Five from the over. Drinks called on the field at the end of this over.

11:33 (IST)

After 15 overs,South Africa Women 81/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 50 , Lara Goodall 22)

Single to Wolvaardt first ball followed by a swing-and-miss for Goodall in the second. Goodall gets off strike with a single off the third ball, running the ball down the ground. Wolvaardt brings up her fifth half-century of the ongoing World Cup with a boundary off the final delivery. Six from the over.

11:29 (IST)

FOUR! What a way for Laura Wolvaardt to bring up her half-century — her 26th overall in ODIs and her fifth of the ongoing tournament. Wolvaardt gets on the backfoot and cuts the ball behind square to bring up the milestone. What a tournament she’s having so far! SA 81/1

11:24 (IST)

After 14 overs,South Africa Women 75/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 45 , Lara Goodall 21)

Goodall collects a single off the second delivery. Wolvaardt pushes the ball through midwicket in the third, pushing for a second and eventually making it. She gets off strike with a single off the fourth. Dot off each of the last two balls, with four coming from the over.

11:21 (IST)

After 13 overs,South Africa Women 71/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 42 , Lara Goodall 20)

A much-better over from Gayakwad with four coming off it as Wolvaard and Goodall collect two singles each.

11:19 (IST)

After 12 overs,South Africa Women 67/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 40 , Lara Goodall 18)

Pooja Vastrakar’s introduced for the first time in the 12th over. Wolvaardt collects a single off the second ball, before Goodall drives a full delivery through midwicket for a boundary off the third to bring up the fifty stand for the second wicket. Five off the over.

11:16 (IST)

FOUR! Goodall pushes a full delivery from Vastrakar through the midwicket region, bringing up the fifty stand with Wolvaardt with a boundary. This has been an impressive recovery by the South Africans after losing the wicket of Lizelle Lee early. SA 67/1

11:13 (IST)

After 11 overs,South Africa Women 62/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 39 , Lara Goodall 14)

Rajeshwari Gayakwad’s introduced at the start of the second powerplay. Goodall welcomes her into the attack with a sweep in front of square, beating the fielder at midwicket to collect her first boundary of the innings. Goes for another paddle towards fine leg two balls later, collecting a double, before collecting a single off the fourth. Wolvaardt continues to collect boundaries for fun, driving the ball through the covers in the penultimate delivery. Keeps the strike with a single off the last ball. South Africa are back on their feet thanks mainly to Wolvaardt, and could actually chase 275 down should the in-form opener convert this start into a match-winning score.

11:09 (IST)

After 10 overs,South Africa Women 50/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 34 , Lara Goodall 7)

Rana introduced as Sharma gets a break after a four-over spell. Goodall attempts a paddle in the second ball, but collects only a single as she lobs the ball towards the vacant short fine region. Wolvaardt moves to 30 with a brace in the third delivery. Wolvaardt brings up the fifty for the Proteas with a boundary off the final ball of the first powerplay.

11:05 (IST)

After 9 overs,South Africa Women 43/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 28 , Lara Goodall 6)

Goodall helps herself to another treble, this time with a cover drive in the third delivery. That is followed by Wolvaardt collecting back-to-back fours — flicking the ball over square leg in the fourth ball followed by a lovely square drive. 11 from the over.

11:02 (IST)

After 8 overs,South Africa Women 32/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 20 , Lara Goodall 3)

Sharma starts off with a couple of dots before Wolvaardt runs the ball down towards long on in the third delivery. Goodall then gets off the mark with a paddle towards fine leg, getting enough time to come back for a third. Four from the over.

10:58 (IST)

After 7 overs,South Africa Women 28/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 19 , Lara Goodall 0)

FOUR! Wolvaardt gets down on one knee and drives the ball past extra cover in the third delivery. Follows it up with another boundary two balls later, this time off a straight drive. Bit of a mix-up while responding to a call for a single in the final ball. She shows hesitation after pushing the ball towards short fine, but comfortably reaches the non-striker’s end with the throw being directed at the keeper’s end.

10:54 (IST)

After 6 overs,South Africa Women 17/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 8 , Lara Goodall 0)

Deepti bowls out a tidy third over with just three runs being added to the South African total, including two leg byes. Wolvaardt, meanwhile, will be the key wicket for the Indians given the way she’s batted so far in the tournament, and getting her early will certainly put India in firm control.

10:50 (IST)

After 5 overs,South Africa Women 14/1 ( Laura Wolvaardt 7 , Lara Goodall 0)

Wolvaardt helps herself to her first boundary with an uppercut over backward point in the second delivery. India break the opening stand two balls later thanks to a direct hit by Harmanpreet Kaur at midwicket, catching Lizelle Lee well short of the striker’s end. Lara Goodall joins Wolvaardt at the crease with South Africa in a spot of bother after losing an early wicket.

10:47 (IST)

OUT! Harmanpreet Kaur’s brilliance on the field continues to get India vital breakthroughs! In this case it’s Lizelle Lee’s whose caught well short of the striker’s end thanks to a superb direct hit by the Indian vice-captain. SA 14/1

10:45 (IST)

After 4 overs,South Africa Women 10/0 ( Lizelle Lee 6 , Laura Wolvaardt 3)

Single to Wolvaardt in the first delivery. Lee goes for a slog-sweep towards deep midwicket in the second ball, but collects only two with Vastrakar guarding the boundary in that direction. Three from the over. Deepti ends the over with three consecutive dots.

10:42 (IST)

After 3 overs,South Africa Women 7/0 ( Lizelle Lee 4 , Laura Wolvaardt 2)

Wolvaardt collects a single off the third delivery, which is followed by well-timed flick by Lee over the square leg region that brings up the first boundary of the innings. Five from the over.

10:41 (IST)

After 2 overs,South Africa Women 2/0 ( Lizelle Lee 0 , Laura Wolvaardt 1)

Deepti Sharma, brought into the side in place of Poonam Yadav, starts off with a beauty as the first ball holds its line and narrowly misses Laura Wolvaardt’s outside edge as well as the off stump. Just one from the over, with Wolvaardt collecting the first run off the bat with a single in the penultimate ball.

10:37 (IST)

After 1 over,South Africa Women 1/0 ( Lizelle Lee 0 , Laura Wolvaardt 0)

Meghna Singh starts off with a wide down the leg side to concede a wide first ball, but keeps things tight for the remainder of the over with six dots, with Lizelle Lee choosing to block her way through the over.

10:35 (IST)

We’re back with the chase, with Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt hoping to get the Proteas off to a solid start. No Jhulan Goswami in action today so Meghna Singh open the bowling for the Indians. The South Africans are already through to the semis, but they’ll want to end the league stage on a winning note. For India, on the other hand, it’s a do-or-die match.

Meanwhile, England have beaten Bangladesh by 100 runs and are currently third on the points table. India must restrict South Africa to less than 174 if they are to finish third and face the Proteas, instead of the Aussies in the semis.

10:03 (IST)

After 50 overs,India Women 274/7 ( Sneh Rana 1 , Deepti Sharma 2)

Ayabonga Khaka bowls the final over of the innings. Kaur guides the ball towards fine leg in the second delivery, coming back for a second, before getting her leg stump flattened in the third ball while looking for a wild slog. Single off each of the last three balls of the over, as India post 274/7 after opting to bat in the final league game of the 2022 ICC World Cup.

09:58 (IST)

BOWLED! Harmanpreet Kaur misses out on a fifty, getting her leg stump flattened by Khaka in the final over! IND 271/7

Kaur b Khaka 48(57)

09:56 (IST)

After 49 overs,India Women 269/6 ( Harmanpreet Kaur 46 , Sneh Rana 0)

Ismail bowls the penultimate over. Starts off with two wides before removing Ghosh two balls later as the keeper-batter skies the ball towards mid on, where Luus holds on to the catch. Kaur collects a single off the third. Rana’s then adjudged caught-behind in her first delivery while trying to avoid a well-aimed bouncer from Ismail. Rana reviews right away, and UltraEdge shows a flat line. Same thing two balls later, as Rana’s adjudged caught-behind off a similar ball, and she overturns the decision again. Good final over from ismail with just three runs and a wicket coming from it as she signs off with figures of 2/42.

India vs South Africa, Women’s World Cup 2022 match LIVE updates: Deepti bowls out the final over of the second powerplay, conceding just three singles from it with the required rate now touching the seven-and-a-half mark.

Preview: Their destiny in their own hands, India will go all out to brush off an inconsistent run and seal a semi-final berth in the Women’s World Cup when they play South Africa in a do-or-die match on Sunday.

So far in the tournament, the 2017 runners-up haven’t fired in the manner they would have like to.

With three wins and as many losses India, who are in the fifth spot with six points in the overall standings, find themselves in a must-win situation heading into their final league match.

Their semi-final chances were dented when West Indies, who are also vying to advance to the knockout stage, and South Africa’s match was washed out with the former moving up to seven points earlier this week.

A win on Sunday will see India advance to the last four, and a point from the game will also work for the Mithali Raj-led side, as they have a superior NRR (+0.768) than West Indies (-0.890).

In case India lose to South Africa, their only hope of advancing to the semi-finals will be if England, who have a better NRR (+0.778), also lose their last league stage match to Bangladesh and finish on a lower NRR. That seems unlikely, though.

But the ‘Women in Blue’ would want to hold all the cards and also get a two-match winning momentum going into the semi-finals.

India’s inconsistent batting came to the fore yet again in an otherwise 110-run win against Bangladesh, and skipper Raj would be keen to improve on that aspect against a challenging South African bowling attack.

The bowling department, which has looked lacklustre at times, put up a much-improved show against Bangladesh. The move to bring in spinner Poonam Yadav in place of pacer Meghna Singh paid off for India.

However, it remains to be seen if India persist with two pacers, three spinners strategy at the Hagley Oval, which has a balanced track where the bowlers will have to be disciplined with their line and lengths.

South Africa, on the other hand, have already qualified for the semi-finals. They sit second in the overall standings, behind Australia.
