India reported 8,774 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, 5.5 per cent higher than yesterday, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry.
This brings the country’s cumulative caseload to 3,45,72,523. Total recoveries were at 3,39,98,278 across the country. A total of 9,481 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate is now at 98.34 per cent.
India’s active caseload stands at 1,05,691. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 1,328.
Among all the states, Kerala reported the highest Covid-19 cases at 4,741, followed by Tamil Nadu with 740 cases, West Bengal with 701 cases, Maharashtra with 507 cases and Mizoram with 358 cases.
These five states accounted for 80.31 per cent of the daily new cases reported on Sunday, with Kerala alone responsible for 54.03 per cent of the fresh infections.
In the last 24 hours, 621 people succumbed to Covid-19, increasing the total reported death count to 4,67,933. Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (554), followed by Maharashtra with 17 daily deaths.
India conducted 10,91,236 tests during the previous day, according to the Health Ministry data.
A total of 82,86,058 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,21,94,71,134.
