Incredible Ford Escort Restomod Arrives This Year
- MST’s new Mk1 Evolution is nearing production, with order books almost full.
- Road-going examples will feature a new 2.8-liter motor with 360 horsepower.
- Mk1 Evolution boasts carbon fiber exterior components, competition-spec suspension, and customizable interiors.
If you’re a monied gearhead with a penchant for restomods, pay attention: the spectacular MST Mk1 Evolution is nearing production, with the UK-based company noting the first road cars will arrive later this year. Ahead of that, the company will build a WRC-spec prototype for tarmac rallying.
That version will have a 2.5-liter engine, but a new 2.8-liter motor will power road-going examples. Although deliveries are yet to begin, MST says the order books are nearly full. So if you’re interested, you had better act fast. Still unconvinced? Let’s look at the Mk1 Evolution in finer detail. The 2.8-liter Millington Diamond powerplant produces a healthy 360 hp, sent to the drive wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission.
Classic Rally Car For The Road
That should make it a rapid little restomod, especially considering the pretty bodywork has plenty of carbon fiber components, such as the front and rear spoilers, wheel arches, and rear diffuser. Handling upgrades include AP Racing six-pot brakes at the front, with four-pot brakes at the rear. The advanced WRC-spec suspension was developed by the late Colin McRae and boasts four-way adjustable dampers. Optionally, customers can choose from Tractive Electronic Active Suspension. A competition-spec limited-slip diff is also part of the package.

But only if you have plenty of cash.
MST also fits the Mk1 Evolution with 17-inch Superlite alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Cup Sport tires. The fuel system has also been redesigned, with new fuel injection throttle bodies from Millington and a lightweight gas tank mounted in the trunk. As for the appearance, MST says customers can choose any color they want. The company also offers various liveries, but clients can also create bespoke designs.
Should Command A Hefty Price
The interiors can also be specified to align with the driver’s needs. Those looking for a serious rally racer can go for a stripped-out, lightweight cabin with FIA race seats and six-point harnesses. But if you’re looking for a sporty companion for Sunday morning drives, MST offers classic bucket seats with regular three-point belts, bespoke (and hand-stitched) leather trim, and more. There are numerous three-spoke steering wheels trimmed in leather or suede.

MST does not mention price, but this restomod has been made with the well-heeled in mind. It’s worth noting the company’s standard Mk1 retails for around $110,000 (about the same as a Mustang Dark Horse and a Mustang GT). Therefore, it’s safe to assume the Mk1 Evolution will be considerably pricier. And if the Ford-based creations don’t do anything for you, perhaps the Metro 6R4 Group B rally car reboot will be more to your tastes.
