NEW DELHI: While confirming the abduction of an Indian national in Kabul, the government said on Thursday said it is in touch with “all concerned” in Afghanistan to secure the release of the businessman identified as B L Arendeh.
“We’ve seen a missing person’s report about an Indian national missing in Kabul. We’re in touch with all concerned. We’ve seen reports about local authorities undertaking investigation,” said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
“We’ll continue to monitor the situation and tell you of any developments,” he added. The spokesperson was responding to queries about whether or not India had established contact with the Taliban on the issue.
When specifically asked whether Arendeh is an Indian national, Bagchi said, “I am given to understand that he is an Indian citizen but we are also checking that part”.
Reports said Arendeh’s family lives in Faridabad, and he has been engaged in business in Kabul for the last two decades. Replying to another question, Bagchi said it is difficult to say about bringing back remaining Indians and some other Afghan nationals till flight services resumed in Kabul airport.Internet Explorer Channel Network
