IMG and WTA reach agreement on Emma Raducanu's schedule decisions

The Lawn Tennis Association were unaware that Emma Raducanu was withdrawing from the Kremlin Cup this month and found out the news via social media.

Sportsmail understands that the 18-year-old’s schedule is carefully curated by her management company IMG and the WTA Tour, leaving the LTA with no insight or control of her tournament commitments.

No reason has been given as to why she has opted out of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow given there is no schedule clash with her next slated event, the Transylvanian Open in the Romanian city of Cluj Napoca.

Along with the tournament in Romania, she is scheduled to play in Linz, Austria, as well as at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 28 for an exhibition event.

She has also signed up to a lucrative exhibition in the Middle East.

The US Open champion became the first name to be announced for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, taking place from December 16-18.

It is an event with deep pockets that has previously attracted big names en route to the Australian Open at the start of the season.

Raducanu, who has made a stuttering start to life back on the WTA Tour, following her stunning rise from US Open qualifying to Grand Slam champion, is managed closely by Chris Helliar and Max Eisenbud at IMG.

Eisenbud is created for his work with a young Maria Sharapova and Naomi Osaka, another global star of the game, is among IMG’s roster of tennis clients.

Raducanu has been with IMG since being on the junior circuit after she was recruited by John Morris, who left the management agency last year.

News of her withdrawal was handled messily as news first emerged on social media prior to any official announcement after fans noticed she was no longer on the tournament’s entry list.

In a statement published soon after, Raducanu said: ‘Unfortunately I’ve had to make a tournament schedule change and won’t be able to play Moscow this year but I hope to compete there and in front of the Russian fans next year.

‘I look forward to returning to the tour in the next couple of weeks.’

It has been an incredibly tricky period for the British teenager since winning the title at Flushing Meadows and splitting from her coach Andrew Richardson.

Following a round one defeat in California at Indian Wells, she has yet to find a replacement.

During Indian Wells she had to borrow the services of the LTA’s Jeremy Bates.

While a respected coach, Bates’s primary job there was to work with Katie Boulter and he was always due to leave the tournament after her first round. As it turned out she lost in straight sets to Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Former British and World No 1 Andy Murray is not worried by what he has seen in Raducanu since she won her maiden Slam title.

The 34-year-old said: ‘What happened (in New York) was obviously incredible but in tennis and other sports it doesn’t just go in an upwards direction all the time.

‘There are always little bumps and stuff along the way. It’s just a little bump, but I think pretty much everyone was sort of expecting that as well. I don’t think it’s anything unexpected, to be honest.’

Sportsmail has reached out to IMG for the reasons behind Raducanu’s Kremlin Cup withdrawal.
