iMac Pro, AirPods Pro 2, and hands-on with Universal Control on the AppleInsider podcast

On this week’s episode of the AppleInsider podcast, your hosts discuss Apple’s new iMac Pro maybe not arriving until the summer, AirPods Pro 2 launching soon, how to use Universal Control, and we discuss Spotify’s podcast fumble.

Display analyst Ross Young reports that Apple’s iMac Pro refresh with mini LED display is likely coming this summer instead of Spring. The high-end 27-inch iMac is one of the last Mac computers to make the transition to Apple Silicon, alongside the Mac Pro.

“AirPods Pro 2” will be a major update over the first generation according to a recent report. The new model may remove the stems and include features such as lossless audio, on-device Siri, case tracking, and health sensors. Renders of the updated AirPods Pro can be seen on AppleInsider.

We have installed the latest iPadOS 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3 beta software, which finally includes Universal Control. During our testing, we found the feature to work seamlessly across multiple iPad and MacBook Pro models.

Universal Control also works with external displays connected to a Mac, and Apple Pencil can also be used alongside the feature.

We round out the show with a discussion about Spotify’s exclusive podcast model and the challenges it brings to the industry. Artists like Neil Young have left Spotify due to the controversial Joe Rogan podcast, allowing Apple Music to gain new subscribers.
