Church Street in Lacock

A charming National Trust village around a two hour drive from Devon up the M5 is definitely one to visit this year. National Trust haven Lacock in Wiltshire boasts a top-rated chocolate shop where you can pick up homemade goodies for yourself or a loved one.

If you’re a fan of exploring National Trust sites and the great outdoors, Lacock Abbey awaits. Built on the site of an old nunnery, visitors can wander through its many rooms and soak up the history. And for Harry Potter fans, the house where Professor Slughorn was first seen hiding is located right in the village.

Many visitors say you should visit Coco Chemistry, a family chocolate shop. They make special chocolates and have treats that people love to buy again and again.

One person on Tripadvisor said: “Me and my family took a visit to Lacock and found this cosy little chocolate shop. The shop had such a festive feeling for this time of year, we bought 2 festive hot chocolates which were both pleasing to the eye and taste! And a diy hot chocolate cone which I can’t wait to try! The staff were really lovely which made the experience! Thank you.”

Another wrote: “Amazing selection of vegan and non vegan chocolate. We purchased 3 bags of chocolates and a hot chocolate. The violet creams were delicious! I wish I had bought more of them. The hot chocolate was delicious!” Someone else mentioned: “Lovely handmade chocolates, with lots of varieties available, very friendly staff and great ice cream! Would recommend a stop here if you are in the village.”

The village boasts The George Inn pub and a few small shops and cafes like The Lacock Bakery and Lacock Deli. In the National Trust’s Lacock village guide, it suggests: “Stop off in the historic Stables cafe in Lacock village, where you can enjoy a freshly brewed coffee, a warming pot of tea or a hot chocolate.”

“During busy periods the Courtyard tea-room serves light lunches, cakes, teas and coffees. Pick a seat inside the historic courtyard building, or one of the picnic tables outside to soak up the atmosphere and admire the Tudor architecture.”

According to the Trust, Lacock is a charming old “quintessential English village” with wooden cottages and four main streets, looking just as it did 200 years ago. It also highlights an old closed shop at 2 High Street, which has kept its last window display “untouched ever since”.
