Ilaiyaraaja sends a copyright notice to Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ team

Music composer Ilayaraja has sent a copyright notice to ‘Coolie’ makers for using his music in the teaser of the film without permission.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s next directorial will have Rajinikanth in the lead role, and the film has been titled ‘Coolie’. The title teaser of ‘Coolie’ was unveiled by the makers recently, and it stunned the fans. In the ‘Coolie’ title teaser composed by Anirudh, Ilaiyaraaja’s song ‘Va va pakkam va’ from ‘Thangamagan’ was recreated. So, Ilaiyaraaja has sent a legal notice to the makers of ‘Coolie’ for using his music in the film without the composer’s permission.

In the notice, it was reportedly mentioned that no formal permission had been obtained from Ilaiyaraaja, the original owner of the ‘Va Va Pakkam Va’ song and music featured in the teaser. This has been pointed out as an offense under the Copyright Act of 1957. The complaint has a special accusation on director Lokesh Kanagaraj as the director continues to indulge in such activities. Earlier, Lokesh Kanagaraj didn’t get permission from the composer for the song “Vikram Vikram” which was earlier featured in the movie Vikram. Similarly, the music of the song “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi” from Lokesh Kanagaraj’s production venture ‘Fight Club’ has also been alleged to have been reproduced without permission.

Ilaiyaraaja has demanded the ‘Coolie’ makers to get proper permission for the usage of the ‘Va Va Pakkam Va’ song featured in the title teaser or to remove the music from the teaser. Ilaiyaraaja’s notice then indicated that they have every right to take legal action if they do not do so.
