OpenAI’s sensational chatbot, ChatGPT, seems to be facing a downtime. This is the third time the AI chatbot is facing a massive outage this year. According to Down Detector, a website that tracks real-time outages, the web version of the chatbot reported an outage at 8:06 pm.
While the web version shows an ‘Error in Moderation’ message following prompts, the iOS version says, “Hmm….something seems to have gone wrong.” The chatbot is not responding to prompts. Following the outage, several users took to their X accounts to share their woes.
Based on Down Detector, ChatGPT faced a similar outage at around 2:06 am earlier today. In the last 24 hours, there have been over 3,000 reports as per the website.

On January 4, ChatGPT faced a major outage with users unable to access it on mobile and desktop. Over 600 outage reports were seen on Down Detector. The cause was unknown at the time, however, it was reportedly due to increased traffic after the GPT Store launch. This was the first major outage this year for the popular AI chatbot.
ChatGPT, the sensational chatbot from OpenAI was introduced to the public in November 2022. ChatGPT created waves for offering human-like responses to queries. The AI conversational bot went on to become the most popular Internet application over time with millions of users accessing it for a variety of use cases. Over time, the makers have added a host of features to the chatbot, making it the pioneer in AI applications across the world.
So far, there has been no official statement from OpenAI on the outage. This is a developing story, watch this space for updates.
