The Winter months make Psoriatic arthritis symptoms worse because of less exposure to UVB light, which helps to synthesize Vitamin D3, which helps in the absorption of calcium. This light is also a known treatment of Psoriasis and therefore missing it makes the condition worse. When in hot and dry weather the skin gets extra dry and itchy.
Expert opinion from Daniel A. Foster
DO, MPH · 16 years of experience · USA
Cloudy weather and shorter daylight hours reduce exposure to sunlight during the winter months. In some people, psoriasis flares up as a result. PsA can be triggered when psoriasis symptoms worsen. Phototherapy, often known as light therapy, is the application of controlled doses of ultraviolet light to the skin.

Cold temperatures and low humidity may contribute to winter flare-ups of psoriasis. A lack of sunlight can also have a negative effect. And lead to vitamin D deficiency. Experts believe vitamin D may help reduce inflammation and reduce the overproduction of cells in some people with psoriasis.
