BJP Moradabad candidate, a 5-time MLA, dies day after polling
BAREILLY: In a significant blow to BJP in Moradabad, its candidate from the seat, Kunwar Sarvesh Singh, a five-time MLA and one-time MP, died a day after his constituency went to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday. He was 72 and had been battling a prolonged illness, his family said. On Saturday, his health suddenly deteriorated, and he was rushed to a hospital in Delhi where he succumbed during treatment.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath expressed shock, and wrote on X: “I am saddened by the demise of BJP candidate and former MP Kunwar Sarvesh. “
An administrative official, requesting anonymity, stated, “The candidate’s death will not affect the counting and election process. If Kunwar Sarvesh emerges as the winner during the counting on June 4, the seat will be declared vacant, and re-elections will be conducted.”
