2024 mexico open odds, picks and pga tour predictions

Tony Finau tips his cap after making a birdie on the second during Round 3 of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club in Detroit on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

Following Hideki Matsuyama’s dramatic comeback win on Sunday at Riviera, the PGA Tour will pack up and head to Vidanta Vallarta for the 2024 Mexico Open. The 1st round from Mexico will begin on Thursday as Tony Finau tries to defend his title.

Below, we look at the 2024 Mexico Open odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Finau is the favorite to win this week after taking home the title last year, coming in with odds of +750. He’s the biggest star in the field, but Nicolai Hojgaard (+1600), Keith Mitchell (+2800) and Patrick Rodgers (+3300) will all tee it up this week, as well.

Vidanta Vallarta is a longer course with wide fairways, making this a venue that favors bombers off the tee. Jon Rahm won here in 2022 and Finau won last year, and both of them hit it exceptionally long. It’s 7,456 yards and only a par 70 with large fairways and penalizing bunkers throughout the course. This is only the 3rd year of the Mexico Open.

Nicolai Hojgaard (+1600)

Hojgaard had an OK debut at the Genesis Invitational, making the cut and finishing T-39. However, he now gets to come to the Mexico Open where he’s played before, finishing 33rd last year. He’s a long hitter who should have an advantage this week on the wide-open Vidanta layout.

Patrick Rodgers (+3300)

Rodgers played well in each of his appearances here, finishing 10th in 2022 and 2023. He started the year strong with finishes of T-14, T-24 and T-9 in his first 3 starts, but he’s faded a bit in recent weeks. However, his odds reflect that and it’s a good spot to take him at a tournament where he’s notched two top-10s.

Brandon Wu (+3500)

Wu finished tied for 2nd behind Rahm and 3rd last year, 5 shots behind Finau. He’s missed the cut in 2 of his 4 starts this season but given his record at Vidanta Vallarta, he’s worth buying here.

Mexico Open picks – Contenders

Michael Kim (+5000)

Kim impressed at The American Express with a T-6 last month and now comes to an event with a weaker field, giving him a chance to notch his 2nd career victory on tour. He didn’t play here in 2022, but he finished 30th last year. He’s not a bomber, but he’s also not the shortest hitter, ranking 70th in driving distance (296.5 yards).

Ryo Hisatsune (+4500)

Before missing the cut at the WM Phoenix Open, Hisatsune finished T-30 at the Sony Open, T-11 at The American Express and T-33 at the Farmers Insurance Open. He hasn’t played this event yet but he shouldn’t have too much trouble in his debut considering how open the course is.

Mexico Open picks – Long shots

Greyson Sigg (+8000)

Sigg has finished 33rd and 18th in his 2 starts in this event. His best finish this season was T-17 at The American Express, missing the cut in his 2 starts since then. He’s a worthy longshot in Mexico.

Carson Young (+8000)

Young finished T-15 in his Mexico Open debut last year, an impressive showing. He tied for 17th at The American Express and was T-41 at the WM Phoenix Open, going 3-for-4 in made cuts this season.
