As the country enters the long Memorial Day weekend, the Pittsburgh Penguins should be extremely close to making hires in their front office.
On the surface, it seems that Kyle Dubas is the leading candidate to take over the Penguins, but that doesn’t mean you can totally count out a couple of other faces.
Everyone seems to be on the same page that Dubas is Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) top option, but if he decides to not want the job, there are backups.
Insider Elliotte Friedman believes that Mathieu Darche and Steve Greeley are still on the Penguins’ radar.
Both Darche and Greeley were brought to the table early in the search and are coming from assistant GM roles with their respective clubs.
Friedman said on the 32 Thoughts Podcast that the Penguins are willing to wait out the long weekend for Dubas to make a decision.
If Dubas decides he doesn’t want to work in Pittsburgh, Darche would be right there as an option.
Friedman stated that Darche was still in the running on 32 Thoughts, but wasn’t sure if anyone else was left.
On the Jeff Marek Show, Friedman followed his words up with a note that Greeley was also still an option.
The Penguins and FSG look to be all in on Dubas giving him the final say, but if he decides to pass, there are solid backup options.
