Ian Poulter lets it all out and fires back at critics as LIV Golf woes continue

Ian Poulter has taken to social media to shut down his critics, as the Englishman’s struggles with the Majesticks continued on the LIV Golf circuit in Singapore last week.

Poulter co-captains the Majesticks alongside his former Ryder Cup teammates Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson, with fellow countryman Sam Horsfield making up the four-man squad. The all-European team currently find themselves second-bottom of the season-long team standings, only bettering the Iron Heads for form in 2024.

The last two weeks in particular have been tough going for the Majesticks, having finished rock-bottom on the team leaderboard in both Adelaide and Singapore. On a personal level Poulter finds himself ranked 37th out of 54 LIV players so far in 2024.

The former European Ryder Cup star finished in a tie for second-bottom in Australia, before ending his week in Singapore in tied-35th at two-under for the week. Poulter has faced criticism since deciding to make the Saudi switch in 2022, but had a poignant message for his critics in the aftermath of LIV Singapore.

“I don’t need to win again,” he wrote on Instagram on Monday. “However I will, and those who don’t think or believe or feed negativity on here need to look in the mirror as they are probably hiding behind some issues. So please go seak help or consult in good friends.

“Having belief and drive and the will to succeed keeps us all working harder. Be happy, spread some happiness in some way. I promise it will help.” Things have been even harder for co-captain Westwood, who is one of only three LIV players yet to bank a point in the 2024 standings.

Third skipper Stenson meanwhile sits two spots ahead of Poulter in 35th on the year-long leaderboard, while Horsfield lies in 45th. Despite the torrid form of his team, Poulter was keen to focus on the good the Majesticks franchise are doing in the game of golf, in particular the team’s ‘Little Sticks’ initiative that helps get children into playing the sport.

“Whilst Team @majesticksgc performance on the course isn’t very good at the moment,” he wrote. “Which some of you keep telling me. It’s not always what’s being done on the course that’s the full picture. I’m extremely proud of our franchise and our #littlesticks program within our Team.

“Building a curriculum for schools to help those who have never picked up a club or would ever be exposed to golf and those children with various disabilities is fantastic to see. Our feedback and our data is proving we can make a difference to many of these kids.

“You don’t always have to win to win. And whilst we improve others we continue to try and improve our own performance levels. And I have faith that this Team will produce soon enough on all levels.” Poulter and his teammates will now take a four-week break before returning to action in Houston on June 7.
