‘Will not contest Lok Sabha elections in view of …’: Sonia Gandhi’s letter to Rae Bareli ‘family’
NEW DELHI: Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday wrote a letter to the voters of Rae Bareli thanking them for their support.
Sonia Gandhi, who has represented Rae Bareli in Lok Sabha since 2004, said in the letter that she will not be contesting Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the wake of her old age and medical condition. This will be the first time that Sonia would not contest in the Lok Sabha election since entering politics nearly two-and-a-half decades ago.
“Will not contest Lok Sabha elections keeping in view of my health, age. I know you will stand by me and my family in future just as in the past,” Sonia Gandhi said in her letter.
The letter comes a day after Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha polls with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra by her side.
