A Canberra woman allegedly tried to hire a dark-web hitman to kill her millionaire parents in an inheritance scheme.

The unnamed woman, 29, was due to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court next week but on Tuesday pleaded guilty to two counts of incitement to murder.

She also faces charges of burglary, money laundering, using a telecommunications network with intent to facilitate a serious offence, and two counts of theft.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, remains out on bail.

It is alleged the woman stole $35,000 from her parents in 2020, when they were worth an estimated $8million, reports the Canberra Times.

At the time, she had just $2.36 to her name.

Using the allegedly stolen funds, which prosecutors claim she accessed by transferring the money from her parents’ account to her own without their permission, she allegedly sought to have her parents killed.

The prosecution’s case against the woman alleged she had a ‘difficult and acrimonious’ relationship with her parents and often felt excluded as a child.

While the facts of the case have not yet been agreed, it is alleged the woman used a dark web forum called The Sinaloa Cartel Marketplace to offer $20,000 to a hitman.

A forum administrator, who used the name ‘Juan’, agreed to do the job – with the woman to pay half the fee upfront and the second half once she received her inheritance, worth one third of her parents’ wealth.

However, her scheme was brought to an abrupt end when journalists researching the dark web allegedly discovered her plan and reported it to police.

ACT Police believe ‘Juan’ was a scammer who had no intention of carrying out the murders.

The woman was arrested for the alleged crimes in December 2020 and breached her bail conditions three times, landing her behind bars in late 2021.

Her case is set to go before a registrar later this week, during which a date may be set for the start of her sentencing.
