Hunter College cancels school in the middle of the day due to protests
All right, Fox News alert live. Look in Chicago right now you’ve seen this drill. Police are facing off with anti Israeli protesters refusing to clear their encampment at the University of Chicago. By the way, the faculty’s in the middle of this. It comes as anti Israel protesters in New York City vandalized Memorial so-called Day of Rage. Burn the US flag torn NYPD officers. Listen, it’s got to be proud. Proud by the way they’re probably all wearing masks. Our next guest is was there and witnessed it all. Gideon Oskowitz is a Hunter College sophomore and joins us. Gideon, you knew about this day of rage? Yeah, yeah. I mean, I told the school wanted well in advance. And what did Hunter College? What was Hunter College reaction? They didn’t say anything until two hours before they decided to shut down the school in the middle of the school day. And why was that when they could have gotten ahead of it? I have no idea. I told the chancellor about 24 hours in advance. How bad is the anti-Semitism that you’ve witnessed? How bad has it been for you? It’s been quite bad. I mean, we’ve had students who in the past last year have threatened to kill me. That was before October 7th, and then we’ve had now we’ve had students who are apparently planning to jump me while I was doing something. How many of these people really understand what’s going on in the Middle East? Very, very feel. I would say the vast majority. I mean, you have groups like like queers for Palestine at these things that are just fully unaware of what would happen. Why? Because how did they accept homosexuality? They do not. If you are homosexual in Gaza, they throw you off of a building and if you’re a member of Hamas, they’ll shoot you. So are you astounded that the October 7th happens 1200 plus Israelis are massacred and people are siding with the other side. So it’s surprising that it’s so widespread, but it’s not entirely surprising. Unfortunately, we’ve seen a lot of this hatred for for America. Who has mobilized them, who is militarized them. It’s a lot of it is the ideology that they’re taught at these schools. Unfortunately, it’s this anti imperialist idea that crosses all these, all the different universities and it teaches these students to hate America, to hate Israel, to hate any western civilization, even if they’re not, even if they’re not history majors, even if they’re political science majors. They just find a way to get to you. None of them are history majors. If they were, they would think differently, right? You would think So what makes you think? Are you going to stay at Hunter? So I’m going to stay. But I was just speaking to another student who is transferring out and it’s it’s pretty common. I have students who we have students in our group who decided not to go to class, who don’t feel safe taking finals. Why is it important for you to stay? I think it’s important because I think I am able to cast a light on this and to bring it to the attention of of the country. And I think that’s very important. But I think for a lot of students who don’t feel comfortable standing up, and I understand that as someone who’s been threatened a lot, then I understand why they’re why they’re. So what do your parents say? My parents are pretty close to switching me out. They’re quite nervous, or so are my grandparents. I’ve gotten hysterical phone calls from my grandparents who are Holocaust survivors about the situation that I’m in. And that made that gives you the strength because you know, what they went through? It gives me the strength because I know what they went through. And I I just think about, you know, my grandmother was born in a barn while fleeing Nazi Germany. And to think that I’m now going to be pushed off of my campus that’s funded by US taxpayer dollars because of a bunch of crazy people. I don’t think so. I love it. Gideon, thanks so much. Hang in there, please keep in touch with us. All right, I’ll do. And keep on speaking out.
