It’s officially the weekend at Augusta National, and Moving Day is bound to be a great one. We have three tremendous co-leaders to start Day 3—Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa and Bryson DeChambeau all share the lead heading into Saturday.
(Scroll down for the latest updates from our crew at Augusta National.)
Though the conditions on Friday were extremely difficult with gusts up to 30-35 miles per hour, the wind will be a little more calm—with a sustained wind around 10 miles per hour with gusts up to 20 mph. Some more accessible pin positions on Day 3 should allow players to put some scores as we typically see on Saturday at the Masters. Those right behind the leaders—Nicolai Hojgaard, Cameron Davis, Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood—will have the chance to join the conversation.
Plus, there are rumors that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce might fly into town. Oh, and we didn’t even mention Tiger Woods, who was extremely impressive on a marathon Friday to secure a weekend tee time at Augusta National for a record 24th time. Buckle up, folks … this could be an all-time content day.
Masters 2024: Live updates from Day 3 at Augusta National:
11:27 a.m.: Hideki is off to a hot start in his second round—he just holed his third birdie of the day, adding one at the ninth hole to turn in 33. (He also birdied the second and third holes.) That gets the 2021 Masters champion to 3-over.
Rather insanely, Rory just made his first birdie in 23 holes (he hadn’t had one since the 14th hole on Thursday). After an absolute missile off the second tee—which cleared the right fairway bunker and tumbled another 50 yards or so—Rory got up and down from the left greenside bunker to make up for the bogey on the first hole. Rory’s now back to 4-over for the tourney.
Check out this absolute heat-seeking missle that the Northern Irishman fired on No. 2. That added yardage in the new teeing location couldn’t stop Rory from hitting—what Shane Bacon called on the broadcast—an absolutely obliterated shot off the tee:

We’re hopeful there will be video of the tee shot. At 380 yards, that has to be one of the longest tee shots we can recall seeing. Obviously it tumbled a ton down the turning, sloped fairway of the second hole. But sheeeeshaloo, that was taken to pound town.
11:07 a.m.: There are some early red numbers out there in this third round. Augusta resident Luke List, making his first appearance at the Masters since 2005 when he was the runner-up at the ’04 U.S. Amateur, is 3-under through his first 5 holes. Hideki Matsuyama, a pre-tournament favorite, is 2-under through 7.
Rory McIlroy’s start isn’t amongst those hot ones. After finding the fairway bunker off the tee, Rory came up short with his approach and then missed a four-footer for his par. Woof … the Northern Irishman didn’t even hit the hole. That’s a disappointing start, but he’ll have a good chance to make up for it at No. 2.
Here are all the pin positions for the third round at the Masters:
