The Ranji Trophy saw one of its’ biggest chokes on Monday (January 15) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as Gujarat pulled off a dramatic victory over Karnataka by a margin of just six runs. While the home team produced a performance for the ages, the visitors were left embarrassed after a dramatic batting collapse.
The Mayank Agarwal-led side not only looked on course for an easy win while chasing a total of 110 but also looked confident at getting a bonus point after the skipper and Devdutt Padikkal put up a 50-run opening partnership in the fourth inning. However, what followed left cricket fans across the nation stunned as the 8-time champions stumbled from 50-0 to 103 all-out as they lost 10 wickets in a span of just 52 runs and fell short of the target.
Left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai was the star of the show for Gujarat in Ahmedbad, with an incredible spell that will go down in the Ranji Trophy hall of fame. Desai took seven wickets while giving away just 42 runs to become the star of the day. Apart from him, Rinkesh Vaghelea, a right-arm off-spinner, also took three wickets as the away team fell into the spin trap set by the home team.
