UFL K Jake Bates continues to show why Vikings should sign him
The Minnesota Vikings are continuously in search of a kicker and have been since Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard field goal in the wild card game against the Seattle Seahawks after the 2015 season. They have taken players in the draft, signed high-profile free agents and even dipped into the spring league pool but haven’t had any luck.
The only kicker currently on the Vikings roster is John Parker Romo who kicked for the San Antonio Brahmas in 2023. To fortify the position even more, they should go back to the UFL ranks to sign Michigan Panthers kicker Jake Bates who continues to show untapped potential.
In his third-consecutive game, Bates hit a field goal of 55+ yards, bringing his total up to four in the first three weeks of the UFL season.
Bates didn’t attempt a single field goal in college but is proving that it might have been a mistake after just three UFL games. This success might force the Vikings to guarantee some money, but if it hits, that’s a moot point.
