PSL side banned for three transfer windows by FIFA!

Yet another DStv Premiership side has had to face the wrath of FIFA over salary issues.

The PSL has been no stranger to such instance and Richards Bay FC are the latest to be hit!

In years gone by, teams at all levels have been punished by FIFA, for various or similar reasons. One of the most popular recent cases was that of Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs. The four-time PSL champions were banned for the illegal signing of Malagasy star Andriamirado ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana in 2020. They were then banned for two transfer windows. That would end up affecting them and then coach Gavin Hunt in the worst way.

Other recent instances of transfer bans

Hunt would have to wait as he painfully watched some of his former Bidvest Wits players moving to rivals. Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns feasted on the quality of players available for free, while Chiefs were left licking their wounds. The next team to be hit with the FIFA ban would be Royal AM. They would twice be hit with charges after failing to pay off Riccardo Nascimento and Samir Nurkovic.

Now Richards Bay have been banned by FIFA for three transfer windows after failing to pay former player Ovella Ochieng.

Richards Bay get transfer ban from FIFA

“Richards Bay have been handed a transfer ban by FIFA with immediate effect, SABC Sport can reveal. According to their investigation, the organisation has concluded that the DStv Premiership side failed to honour their financial obligations towards Kenyan international Ovella Ochieng despite a mutual agreement to do so. SABC Sport can confirm that FIFA have updated their records to sanction Richards Bay by not allowing them to register new players internationally and have since also written to their member federation in the South African Football Association [SAFA] to do the same from a local level as well.” Wrote SABC Sport.

Kenyan international Ochieng parted ways with Richards Bay before the end of last season. His last of eight games came exactly a year ago.
