Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay on Friday thanked his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for visiting the Himalayan nation despite the inclement weather and his busy schedule ahead of Lok Sabha elections. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Tobgay referred to PM Modi’s Bhutan visit as a manifestation of the “Modi Ki Guarantee” phenomenon.
“A big thank you to my brother, PM @narendramodi Ji, for visiting us. Neither his busy schedule nor inclement weather could prevent him from fulfilling his promise to visit us. This must be the #ModiKaGuarantee phenomenon,” Tobgay tweeted.
“Modi ki Guarantee” is one of BJP’s most popular election slogans that promises the current government’s commitment to ensure welfare of each and every citizen of India.Â
PM Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Bhutan on Friday, his first after the new government took office in the Himalayan nation.
During his visit, the Prime Minister was conferred Bhutan’s highest civilian award, Order of the Druk Gyalpo, by the country’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at an event held in Thimphu.
PM Modi was conferred the award in recognition of “his outstanding contribution to the growth of India-Bhutan relations and for his distinguished service to the Bhutanese nation and people”.
PM Modi’s visit to Bhutan was a part of the Indian government’s emphasis on its ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’.
During his visit, PM Modi pledged New Delhi’s support to Bhutan’s development efforts and committed to providing Rs10,000 crore for Bhutan’s 13th five-year plan.Â
This was PM Modi’s second meeting with his Bhutanese counterpart in a month. Earlier this month, the two leaders met in New Delhi.
